ADAS or An Advanced Driver-Assistance System includes technologies that assist drivers with the safe operation of a vehicle. Through a human-machine interface, ADAS increases car and road safety. ADAS uses automated technology, such as sensors, radars and cameras, to detect nearby obstacles or driver errors, and respond accordingly.
If you had any repair that affected the radar, camera or sensors you most likely will need a calibration. This is because the Radars and Cameras use complicated math to determine distances and objects. Any change to the mounting area of these devices or a new installation of a camera or radar will require calibration.
Your ADAS equipment will not function properly and could give false readings to your systems such as lane keep, blind spot detection, crash avoidance and more. These systems are part of many larger systems in your car including your antilock brakes. In most cases you will not be able to use certain functions until you calibrate with items like adaptive cruise control. Many times, you will see dash error messages showing you a calibration is needed or a system is not responding due to a change or repair.
